the spirit of June 16

June 16 means so much, to so many.

To some, the day will forever recall the vivid memory and sadness of their personal loss, and with them are our collective sympathies. Others will remember the rage, the passion, the determination.

Although just one step in the epic journey to South Africa's liberated democracy, June 16 is a fitting metaphore for the courage, sacrifice, determination and, above all, faith that delivered us to where we are.

The June 16 1976 Foundation

is formed to keep this metaphore alive.

On the one hand, we want to ensure that the memories live and are shared, that the lessons learnt become imprinted on our collective conscience. Equally, however, we want to make this metaphore real, and to give the youth tangible hope in our future.

The Foundation's role is principally that of a catalyst. We host and showcase projects around youth-related issues, and also provide an important networking hub to keep the Class of '76 connected, and accessible.
